Rimal sources coffee from East African origins. Each origin has its own altitude range, climate, processing tradition and grading system, and each is described separately.

Origins are not interchangeable. Altitude, rainfall and processing tradition shape both the physical bean and the commercial specification.

Cool highland climate with two rainfall seasons

Widely recognised for structured acidity and blackcurrant or dark berry character

Commonly 1,500–2,300 m

Highland climate with a defined dry harvest period

Floral and citrus character in washed lots; berry sweetness in naturals

Warm, humid lowlands for Robusta; cooler highlands for Arabica

Varies by region, with two harvest windows in several areas
Cup character
Robusta: heavy body, low acidity. Arabica: sweet, fruited, medium to high acidity
Grading
Robusta by screen size; Arabica by recognised Ugandan grades
